On May 18, 1937, Concord Baptist Church was founded by the late Reverend William D. White on Franklin and Poppleton Streets in Baltimore, Maryland. Reverend White originally lead the congregation of Abyssinia Baptist Church and by uniting with a small group of Franklin Baptist Church members, Concord Baptist was born. In the spirit of unity, and to illustrate the accord and harmony that existed among this new family of believers, the name %26quot;Concord%26quot; seemed only fitting. Reverend White%26apos;s success was indicative of his prior experience in founding Mount Moriah Baptist Church of Richmond, Virginia in the 1930%26apos;s Currently , Reverend Dr.Matthew L. Jones leads the congregation of Concord Baptist Church. Likewise, Dr. Jones was called from Mount Moriah Baptist Church of Richmond, Virginia on February 1987. Many Believe this is not coincidence. Under his leadership, the emphasis of Concord is to serve %26quot;God and humanity%26quot;. And, in conjunction with this mission, he has instituted many programs under the umbrella of the Social Welfare Ministries. These include, but not limited to drug prevention, a %26quot;SHARE%26quot; program which provides wholesale food to individuals in exchanged for community service, emergency monetary assistance, a %26quot;Representative Payee%26quot; program providing elderly individuals assistance in managing their monthly bills and a Deacons ministry whose goal is to administer spiritual guidance to church members and the community. Additionally, Christian education continues to be a hallmark of Concord Baptist Church. Dr. Jones enhances the Bible study program by teaching the Wednesday evening session.
